Sir Brian Souter today announced that Stagecoach have placed a record breaking £100 million order for 570 new buses and coaches to be added to their ever growing fleet. The deal will bring the company's total investment in regional bus operations to around £545 million in the past seven years.
Stagecoach have chose Alexander Dennis, a Scottish bus manufacturer, to build 485 of the planned buses which will earn them a contract worth £65 million. The firm employs 2,000 people across their Falkirk, Guildford and Scarborough production facilities; so the contract will give the firm a welcomed boost.
The story has been featured in the Scotsman Newspaper where Colin Robertson, chief executive at Alexander Dennis, said;
“This is another massive boost for the whole of the bus manufacturing sector, and, from an Alexander Dennis perspective, I am delighted that we have again won the lion’s share of the new business. We have worked closely with Stagecoach over many years to ensure that we design, engineer and build class-leading products.”
Martin Griffiths, chief executive of Stagecoach added;
“This record investment is a major boost for UK jobs in manufacturing and many other smaller businesses in the supply chain.”
