Tithing has always been a central pillar of Sir Brian's beliefs and it's why he and wife Lady Elizabeth set up the Souter Charitable Trust in 1992.
The trust supports good causes in the UK and around the world and is especially engaged in assisting organisations involved in the relief of human suffering, especially those that also promote spiritual welfare.
The Trust is funded almost exclusively by the Souter family. Since 2006, the Trust has made more than 15,000 grants totalling over £104m. The future of the Trust and its ability to continue to support important causes has now been assured with the donation by Brian of shares in Souter Investments worth £109m in October 2019.
Brian is reluctant to talk about his good works but he has certainly been one of Scotland’s biggest charitable donors since the steel magnate, Andrew Carnegie.
